To ensure an enjoyable visit, we ask that you read and review the Club's rules and guidelines prior to your arrival. The Club reserves the right to enforce rules upon anyone who is not attired or does not follow the rules in a manner which reflects the formal nature of the Club and its membership.

It is the responsibility of the sponsoring member or host to notify each guest of the Club's dress standards. The staff has been instructed to enforce these standards.

Tipping Guidelines

  • Discretionary tipping is permitted throughout the facility, including cafe, bar, locker rooms, player services and barber.  

Cell Phone Usage

  • Cellular telephones may be used ONLY in your automobile and locker rooms. Please be courteous of our members and other guests.

  • Silent texting is permissible; however, we ask that you remain mindful of those around you so as to be discreet.

Dress Code

Golf course attire must follow the conservative traditions of the Club. The best example of acceptable dress for playing golf at the Virginia Country Club is the type of attire worn by male and female touring golf professionals.

  • The Dress Code is strictly enforced. Reasonable conservatism of dress is expected of all members and guests.  Proper attire contributes to the overall enjoyment and reputation of the Club.

  • Bathing suits, tank tops, cut-offs, cargo shorts or pants, sweat pants and short shorts are not acceptable attire while on Club property.

  • Denim policy: The Denim Policy shall apply to Gentlemen, Ladies and Children. Denim in good taste is permitted in all areas of the Clubhouse and Patios. Denim is NOT permitted during any golf activity. Denims must be in good repair. There shall be no holes, rips, tears, tatters, frays, acid wash, handwritten messages, pictures, or inappropriate messages. Please remember: denim is prohibited during any golf related activity.

  • Hats must face bill-forward when worn. Hats and visors must be removed while in the Clubhouse.

  • Shorts are permitted so long as they are Bermuda or walking style shorts no higher than four inches above the middle of the knee.

  • Shirts must have collars. However, turtlenecks and mock-turtleneck golf shirts may be worn on the Golf Course and in the Clubhouse. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

  • Hawaiian style shirts may be worn un-tucked and are allowed while dining in the Clubhouse, except on Sunday nights in the Main Dining Room. Hawaiian shirts are not allowed on the Golf Course.

  • Shoes must be worn at all times when on Club premises, except in the locker rooms.

  • Hats must face bill-forward when worn. Hats and visors must be removed while in the Clubhouse.



  • If you are a guest for a social or dining function, please enter the Clubhouse through the Main Entrance. Our front office personnel will direct you to the appropriate area.

  • During Sunday dinner hours in the Main Dining Room, men must wear a suit/sport jacket, shirt and slacks. A tie is optional. Women are encouraged to dress conservatively with suits, dresses or tailored slacks and tops. Shorts are not permitted during formal dining hours in the Main Dining Room.

  • The Members Grill is for Members and their guests ONLY. Guests must be accompanied by a member while dining in the Members Grill.
  • Shoes must be worn at all times when on Club premises, except in the locker rooms.


  • Should you be playing golf, please drop your bag off at the bag room adjacent to the Pro Shop. Outside services personnel or the pro shop staff will be happy to help you get acquainted with the Club's various facilities.

  • We ask our golfing guests to avoid changing shoes or clothes in the parking lot. Our locker room staff will be happy to assign you a complimentary locker for your use throughout the day.

  • Virginia Country Club is a softspike facility. If you have metal spikes, our locker room attendants will be happy to replace them with softspikes.

  • All golfing guests must ride a golf cart.
  • Carts must remain on the cart path on hole no. 1 and on all par 3's.

  • A brisk pace of play is an important tradition at our Club. Please be prepared to play "ready golf."
